How We Respond - Climate Change Stories & Solutions - Documentary - Oregon
I wanted to release this film from Oregon today because it is raining outside, and I can’t help but think about the lush greens of the Pacific Northwest. The Pacific Northwest has always had my heart, and so it was a sheer pleasure to pour over the beautiful footage the amazing Impact Media Lab film crew gathered for this story. This film set the color palette for this entire 8 part film series and so it is definitely my favorite looking film we pulled together. And this story is super moving! It is the story of a blue collar, hard working, hatchery manager from Netarts Bay, Oregon trying to keep his oyster larvae business afloat in the face of ocean acidification. Alan, teamed up with scientists in the area and they figured out the issues behind their larvae not surviving through the stage where they build shells, and with this knowledge they were able to overcome serious challenges. That being said, ocean acidification is a huge issue we’re battling in association with climate change and increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. So while this story highlights a true human success story, the issue at large is one we’ll still have to keep working on to protect the future of our oceans, and the myriad of creatures that call the ocean their home. I hope you enjoy this film in our How We Respond series! It was a blast to edit, and I hope it keeps you inspired to do what you can to combat climate change!
